Here's some progress of a painting I started, it's been neglected these past few weeks to do working lots and getting ready for another move.

New groove.

Ohkay I fail at taking photos of my work and posting it BUT you will more work weekly because I'm attempting to do this thing called "sketch a day" but it won't be limited to just sketches, I'll be working on illustrations and paintings etc. wow what a large run on. ALSO I'm planning on becoming a tattoo oartist so I'll eventually be taking proper photos of my work for prints to place into a portfolio. Feel good to be motivated.

Here are a few things I've worked (some are still in progress).

Bird of prey.

Inspired by all things eerie, the eyes of Halloween spirit: Vampira, Dracula, & Frankentein

Inspired by a photograph: Skull & butterfly. I find the juxtaposition of life and death too be so beautiful. Something so innocent and pure paired with something society deems to be hideous.

Warm up sketches of random things: pyramids, buck, rose bud, tentacles & hands.

Forcing myself to practice my symmetry and it's a pain in the rear. Still have quite a bit of work to do on this...

just a quick sketch of a face before bed. I love drawing eyes.

practicing painting from what I solely see not what I've been taught how to view things. Painting a photograph of a girl upside down...it'll be a surprise when I turn it the proper way.

SelfPotrait

my final project from my introductory drawing course last semester. the task was to create a self portrait and somehow implement time. the term "self-potrait" was vague and gave us the creativity to do whatever we wanted. i choice to separate the project into three different drawings rather than one large piece. the series was done in charcoal, graphite stick, willow charcoal, coloured charcoal (brown/sienna), and pencils (b to 6b).

for this piece i chose to draw the face as a typical self portrait (realistically) and do the hair differently. the hair is more of an illustration feel because i wanted to focus more on it. for me my hair is a part of me, it's a safety blanket i suppose and people just obsess over it (if i were ever to chop it off again, though i doubt i would, there'd probably be an outraged group of people haha). it also goes off the page cause i let it grow and rarely go for trims (once a year...).

 (blind portrait/contour)

this piece was done using the blind contour method. i chose to jut draw the basics of my face and do so by not glancing down at the paper, solely on my reflection (hence the blind contour aspect). i chose this technique because people are blind to what they see/how they perceive themselves. we perceive the way we think we look differently the world (either better or worse).

also you may have noticed that in both part one and two my left eye is larger than the right...that's because i suppose sub-consciously i drew it out that way. in photographs when i smile the right eye is most often smaller than the left. funny how your conscious pours into your work ain't it?

 prt3:
the piece was when i had fun letting my creativity take over, as it should. i implemented time through the tree; on the left there are blossoms sprouting (as it does in spring), the center is summer and a bit of fall, and then the right is autumn/winter and barren with dead leaves falling. this piece is symbol of how i am strongly rooted to my faith, values, spirituality, and heart. i know that wherever life takes me, whatever gets thrown at me, i will always be rooted to god and i know through whatever season of life he will carry me through and be there.

emily carr portfolio submission

pieces i submitted for my portfolio a couple weeks ago. i like the result of this year's submission a great deal more than the work i submitted last year. unlike last year where i was trying to find 15 pieces to submit, i had to narrow done a buttload to get to 30 pieces then cut that in half to get only 15. wahooo, now all i have to do is wait patiently till march...aggghhhh
