hello there,

You can call this a modern day scrapbook/portfolio of my work: collections of paintings, sketches, doodles, photography and perhaps some film (when i have time). This will be another creative outlet aside from writing (http://gabdez.blogspot.ca/). This blog will also act as a form of motivation to develop my art and to view my progress later on.

Degas

first official homework from my painting class. we were to select a work from a list of famous artists and try to mimic their painting technique. i chose to re-create one of Edgar Degas potraits from his collection of women sitting and brushing their hair or stepping in/out of the tub. i don't know why but i love drawing or painting the woman body. something so delicate and elegant about it. anywho below is his orignal painting, i still need to go back at touch mine up. not quite satisfied yet but i spent a good 5-6 hours painting it.

Degas is  most known for his dancers (danseuse) series which i loved when i was younger. i remember look at the ballerina's and thinking how beautiful their tutu's were and how delicate they looked.

interesting fact i learned from my professor seabel: he was pretty much a creeper. he adored woman and was fascinated with them but never had the courage to go up and talk to them. due to his shyness he painted/drew these woman from a distance where they didn't even notice him. bizarre but brilliant.
